140 characters. That’s it. That's the extent of your tweet. A Japanese haiku has 17-syllables. It is a three-line poem. Haiku is an art form. Haiku is poetry. You can make your Twitter feeds poetry... Your poetic license is not entirely cut short, but let's start with the first 140 characters.
Only registered members can read your Tweets. These members are likely to be engaged in reading topics that relate to your product or service. It is essential that your Tweets are clear, easy to read, and follow a specific train of thought. # or a “hash tag” is a metadata tag. Please use this tag in front of the keyword or phrase. Example searching for #WorldCup will get you responses from other people who tweeted about #WorldCup.
What is exciting and unique about Twitter is its ability to foster public conversations.
Here are 5 things you can do to spread your message through Twitter:
1) 1) You can thank good customers. Example thank new customers for following your business: @LookSocialMedia thank you for following @daniellecenter1
2) Engage your audience by giving business partners, vendors and suppliers much needed information. When Tweeting keep it short and simple, but upload quality graphics that keep your audience coming back for more. Your audience when reading your Tweets should be thinking, “Wow! I did not know that."
3) Reach out to trade or professional groups. These are groups with whom you can network and then build long-term relationships. These trade or professional groups are looking for much needed information to stay up-to-date on your industry. These postings will allow you to interact with other members of your industry and then…you can become a “thought-leader.” As a “thought-leader” you can be the industry “go-to” and this information may be much needed by your peers.
4) Provide consistent value. We live in an information age. America in the 21st Century is a place where people can connect in a variety of ways. Twitter, based in San Francisco is leading the way for your business to connect with your target audience. Twitter is a free service, but remember your time is not free. Please take the time and energy to provide value to your Twitter audience. The more value your readers gain from your Tweets, the more likely they are to Tweet about you or “retweet” your online content.
5) Location! Location! Location! Even though we can use many forms of digital marketing, please consider your neighborhood and location. It can be fun and profitable to attend local events in person. You can interact with your Twitter audience online, but meeting someone in person and shaking their hand can be another way for you to close another exciting business deal.
